The Human Renaissance

The first great danger of artificial intelligence is not that machines become human, but that human beings forget what being human requires.

Read with attention

The first great danger of artificial intelligence is not that machines become human. It is that human beings forget why being human mattered. We have built power faster than character, information faster than wisdom, connection faster than friendship, and convenience faster than competence.

AI is Promethean fire. It can illuminate, heal, teach, and build. It can also manipulate, surveil, replace, and burn through the conditions of freedom. The decisive question is not merely what machines can do, but what kind of people will command them—and what kind of civilization they will serve.

Can human wisdom grow quickly enough to govern human power?
